Kerygma: Basic Truths
built one block at a time
" 37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
38 Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”"
John 18:37-38a NKJV (bold text is my emphasis)
June 6th we began our summer series, Kerygma, with a part one look at Truth. What we established is that Truth = Reality. And Truth has been lost in our world today...and with it, reality. In John 18, above, Pontius Pilate concludes a brief conversation with Jesus, the embodiment of truth, by sarcastically asking the question, "What Is Truth?". Pilate's point? There is no Truth. Two Thousand years later, we find ourselves in a world that once again has bought into that same old lie. But here's the thing. We shouldn't be surprised that the world balks at the idea of Truth(with a capital T - meaning absolute truth that applies to everyone, everywhere, at all times). If that wasn't the case then
Jesus wouldn't have had to come and testify or "bear witness" to the truth. The thing that is troubling is, and this is where our summer series come in, the church is quickly losing it's grasp on Truth. Especially revealed truth(God's Word). This is a real problem because so much of what we need to know, and I mean really need to know, cannot be understood apart of the Bible. And if we, the Church - Jesus' presence in this world, don't understand or don't accept reality as revealed in Scripture then we will never be able to point the world to those realities. So beginning this past weekend and for the remainder of the summer my goal is to sure up the foundations of our understanding and make sure that we have a clear view of reality...then and only then will we be able to communicate that reality to others who desperately need to understand the Truth. If you missed it, I strongly encourage you to take the time to listen, take notes, and understand the answer to the first question in our series: What Is Truth?
Understanding truth is important. If you have questions. Type them here or leave a question in one of the agape boxes and we'll answer them as soon as possible.
